Wednesday and Friday Fasting Discipline
General Fasting Guidelines:
- Only one meal is permitted during the fasting period. No snacking is allowed.
- Drinks should be limited to water, tea, coffee, herbal teas etc.
- Abstinence: The meal must be vegetarian, avoiding all forms of meat (including poultry), and ideally excluding animal products like dairy and eggs if following stricter traditional abstinence.
A Sample Fasting Meal:
- Lentil Stew: A hearty stew made with lentils, onions, garlic, tomatoes, and spices. Serve with a side of steamed greens, such as spinach or kale.
- Rice: A small serving of brown rice to accompany the stew.
Fasting during Lent
The fasting period of lent consists of following ideally a vegan diet, but at a minimum it should consist of eating a vegetarian based diet. One small meal and one large meal is to be eaten daily with the exception of Wednesday and Friday where only one modest meal is to be taken.
